West Virginia Rock Climbing
Ever consider rock climbing or rappelling? It's an exhilarating experience and just about anyone can do it. WVA offers trips through Hard Rock Climbing Services for children and adults in the New River Gorge and by pontoon boat on Summersville Lake. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced climber you'll get a challenge and all the instruction you need...(bursts of excitement and thrills are complimentary with every trip!).

We offer half day climbing and rappelling trips that are a great introduction for beginners and take place at the base of the New River Gorge Bridge. Our full day course is specifically catered to your climbing needs with a variety of routes to choose from in the local area.

    This is a perfect way to sample some climbing and rappelling in the New River Gorge for the first time. You'll learn basic techniques by spending approximately two hours rock climbing and two hours rappelling.

    All climbing equipment and transportation is provided. No previous experience required.

    Our basic one day course emphasizes techniques for rock climbing problems in their infinite variety - cracks, chimneys, face and friction moves. You'll learn modern rope and equipment management and climb some of the classic routes in the New River Gorge. Hard Rock Climbing Services provides all climbing equipment, deli style lunch, transportation to and from the climbing site and our highly experienced guides will ensure you of a safe and exciting day of rock climbing in the New River Gorge. No previous experience required.

    The ultimate rock climbing adventure! Explore, by pontoon boat, the 20 miles of rock that line the shores of one of the states most scenic lakes, Summersville Lake. The pontoon boat serves as a base of operations and will allow us to move to various areas on Summersville Lake for a remote climbing experience.

    This two hour trip is fantastic for people who have limited time and still want to experience the beauty of the New River Gorge. Rappel over a 100 foot cliff while sun is setting behind the mountains and the New River Gorge Bridge is at your side.

    • Certified AMGA Top Rope SiteManagers on every climbing trip. The only way to truly verify if your guide is certified is to look on the AMGA list of certified guides.
    • In accordance with National Park Service regulations, we follow a 4:1 guest to guide ratio. We are able to accommodate groups as large as 24 and as little as 1.
    • All of our equipment and gear is inspected on a daily basis and replaced as needed.
    • ALL climbing guides are all Wilderness First Aid and CPR certified.
    • All of our guides are accomplished and active climbers.
