A Special Lower Gauley Excursion with Select Availability!
This special trip down the Lower Gauley only runs a few weeks each year. Don’t miss out on this unique experience! With the help of our highly experienced guides, navigate through Class III/IV rapids that most people never see as you paddle along beautiful history-laden terrain.
You start the day by checking in at our BaseCamp, where you meet the trip leader and your guide for the day. We answer your questions or concerns and outfit everyone in your party with a paddle, PFD (flotation/lifejacket), and helmet. On the bus ride to the river, we go over safety instructions, prepare you for what to expect, and usually keep you laughing.
Once we get to the river, you board your group’s raft along with your guide, and after a few practice strokes and getting comfortable in the raft, you get the rush of your first rapid! This trip is filled with history about the Native Americans, Civil War battles, and the creation of the Summersville Dam (including the flooding of the Village of Gad).
About halfway through the day, we make a stop along the banks for a delicious buffet lunch, including build-your-own sandwiches, fresh fruit, snacks, and dessert. (If you have special dietary needs, please let us know when you make your reservation so we can accommodate them.)
Refueled, you complete the second half of your river adventure, ending in the quiet rolling countryside, before boarding the bus that takes you back to BaseCamp.
